Stomping with jaw-dropping demo production full of reverb and lacking rhythmic attack and stability, At the Gates' latest 2018 album To Drink from the Night Itself shows how much the band isn't willing to depart their B-minor Black Metal they started pioneering with Terminal Spirit Disease. Quite the contrary: despite the departure of their founding guitarist Anders Bjorler, the band continues to stomp with Metalcore breakdowns and a sound engineering worth of Darkthrone and Minor Threat: unfortunately, such sudden jumping into "old-school 80's production" don't work anymore for a professional, cashing act like them. Other cuts like "Daggers of Black Haze" trip into E-minor chording, "In Death They Shall Burn" goes with diminished Dark Funeral-like leads and "The Mirror Black" features balladic paces not unlike Empyrium and Ulver. For the rest, this bandwagon jumping into the most revered Extreme Metal sub-genre of the actual years is nothing short than horrible.Highlights: "The Colour of the Beast".
Slaugher of the Soul was released in mid-ninetieth, only once. These guys create art, poetry. We can easily recognise their sound, but those who wait for SotP vol.2 to bring them back into puberty... Well, i've had bad news for you)
