I named my one of my favorite cats Harper after Roy Harper :P
One would have to have been there to understand how this single track on Led Zep III (along with Gallows Pole, perhaps) opened up ears. Most of us growing up during the Led Zeppelin period had never heard anything like this before. Slide? maybe here and there. But open D slide detuned down to C with snippets of raw delta blues lyrics like this? Nope. Not in a world where probably the majority of record buyers in the US got their LPs at department stores, where rare folk and blues LPs were something you had to seek out. Tracks like this one made a lot of people look up the original blues and folk artists who influenced Zep tracks like this. It made a lot of guitarists explore open tunings and folk and delta stylings on their instruments.
Ive literally listened to zeppelin EVERYDAY for 2 years and just found this song I haven’t heard ??
Who cares about bozo
Check out Roy Harper, who they were hats offing to.
Nice edit! that was awesome!
I got an old hifi record player still spins. There are a bunch of old blues albums my cats sharpen their claws on it and use it for a toilet! Now it's 2023 started singing this song my girlfriend told me to shut the fuck up before someone heard me. What record? Coda? Physical Graffiti? Nope Led Zep III! Memories fade.......Kill your father rape your mother that's what the black folks in Chester Pennsylvania called Led Zeppelin music back in the late 70s 10 yrs later they're listening to Metallica because they liked the drum beats.......Jesus wept!
Curious song to end an important album for them at the time, surely they had something better in the vaults at the time
I loved listening to this in my walkman as a kid. The vocals would be entirely in one ear and the music in the other.
I read a comment from a supposed Zep head who said this song is garbage
Well I'm a Zep head and I don't consider this garbage ... Jimmy plays some bad ass finger picken slide on this one he is and was a master virtuoso 52 yrs ago ahead of his time then and now .
Most players master a particular type / style plus a bit of blues, Jimmy mastered everything No one else
No one else ... comes close ... Everyone else is boring but that's just my opinion ??

The low view count on this classic is profoundly perturbing... xD
No one can cover this song only Robert Plant Led Zeppelin
Love it
as country as country blues gets. LOVE IT. P.S. Is this just Page and Plant/no bass/jpj/Bonzo?
