Whitehorse - The Road To Massey Hall

Review by Myungjin Choi

The Road to Massey Hall, the latest album by Canadian indie folk duo Whitehorse, is a stunning tribute to the iconic Toronto music venue. The album features live recordings from the duo's sold-out shows at Massey Hall, as well as brand new studio recordings of classic Canadian songs.

The album kicks off with a powerful rendition of Neil Young's "Ohio," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. The live tracks are raw and energetic, with Luke Doucet's guitar work and Melissa McClelland's vocals blending together perfectly. The studio tracks are just as impressive, with the duo putting their own spin on Canadian classics like "Wheat Kings" by The Tragically Hip and "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Epitaph in Tongues," a haunting ballad that showcases McClelland's stunning vocals. The song is a perfect example of the duo's ability to create a powerful emotional connection with their audience.

About Whitehorse

Toronto, Ontario Ethereal folk, Space Cowboy twang. Psychedelic spaghetti western. Intergalactic blues grooves. Pop noir. Since their debut in 2011, Whitehorse has evolved from magnetic folk duo to full-blown rock band. In truth, Whitehorse is never fully either one or the other, but an ever-evolving creative partnership that challenges both artists to explore new instrumental & lyrical terrain with each project.
