Waylon Speed - Georgia Overdrive

Review by Jacqueline Gum

Waylon Speed's Georgia Overdrive is a gritty and powerful album that showcases the band's unique blend of rock, country, and blues. From the driving opener "Until It All Ends" to the haunting ballad "Death Don't Have No Mercy," the album is a tour de force of raw, honest songwriting and powerful musicianship.

The band's signature sound is built around the interplay between the twin guitars of Kelly Ravin and Chad Hammaker, who trade licks and riffs with a fierce intensity that is both impressive and infectious. Meanwhile, the rhythm section of Justin Crowther on bass and Justin "J" Jody on drums provides a rock-solid foundation that keeps the songs moving forward with relentless energy.

Throughout the album, Waylon Speed explores a variety of themes, from love and loss to addiction and redemption. The lyrics are often dark and introspective, but there is also a sense of hope and resilience that shines through, especially on tracks like "Tally Ho" and "Devil's Due."
