Warren Zevon's album, My Rides Here, is a powerful and poignant collection of songs that showcases the late singer-songwriter's incredible talent and unique perspective on life and death. His albums used to feature all the L.A. studio cracks in abundance and sometimes too many at a time. On this one he goes with a smaller crew and rocks out far heavier than ever. Those who put him in the folk or country rock corner never knew. The highlights stand out less than on other albums but the overall set is more consistent. He also had some co-writers for more variations in his stories, not a bad idea.
And I'm sure it was a swift and sure ride like a laser light arrow to heaven. Wonder when my rides here

The religious references make this song very Leonard Cohen-like, but Zevon has a certain irreverence about him that I find refreshing.

Just got the bio of Warren Z by his wife Crystal. VERY interesting! Zevon was a genius, his lyrics were very literary! On this album, I love this song and Lord Byron’s Luggage (intro sounds like Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner)! RIP, Warren - I’m enjoying every sandwich!!
