Velvet Eden - Madame Tarantula

Review by Giulia Angolini

Madame Tarantula is the fourth studio album by Velvet Eden, a Japanese gothic rock band. The album was released on July 7, 2003, and features 10 tracks that showcase the band's unique blend of dark, theatrical music and provocative lyrics.

The album opens with "Poison", a haunting track that sets the tone for the rest of the record. The song features a driving beat and eerie synth lines, which are complemented by Dada's trademark vocals. The album continues with "Madame Tarantula", a track that combines elements of rock, electronica, and classical music.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Crimson", a dark and brooding ballad that showcases Dada's emotive vocals. The song features a haunting piano melody and atmospheric strings, which create a sense of melancholy and longing.

Another highlight of the album is "Black Cherry", a catchy and upbeat track that features a driving bassline and infectious chorus. The song is a perfect example of Velvet Eden's ability to blend dark and light elements to create a unique and compelling sound.

About Velvet Eden

VELVET EDEN is a Japanese darkwave unit led by vocalist . Formed in November 1998, the project was originally a duo composed of DADA and keyboardist . After KALM left on March 2000, VELVET EDEN turned into a rock band with unstable lineup and eventually disbanded in July 2002. In May 2010 VELVET EDEN regrouped with DADA on vocals, on violin and dancers Lily and Yurikago (who also provided backing vocals on some of the first tracks). Yurikago left the band some months later and was replaced by Cei.
