Various - Let Them Eat Jellybeans

Review by Norman Gordon

Let Them Eat Jellybeans is a compilation record that showcases the punk rock and hardcore scene of the early 80s. Released in 1981, the album features 20 tracks from various bands such as Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, Circle Jerks, and Flipper.

The album starts off with a bang with Dead Kennedys' "Police Truck," a satirical take on police brutality and racism. The rest of the album follows suit with fast-paced, aggressive tracks that touch on themes of politics, social issues, and rebellion.

One of the standout tracks on the album is Bad Brains' "Pay to Cum," a song that combines punk rock and reggae influences to create a unique sound that would later influence the hardcore genre. The Circle Jerks' "Wild in the Streets" is another highlight, with its catchy chorus and energetic guitar riffs.

I think this record has at least 5 or 6 bands that were on Rat music for Rat people vol. 1 but this actually might be a better record. Which is saying a lot because Rat Music vol. 1 was so good. I guess Rat music is comprised of a lot of live recordings which makes it different from Let them eat Jellybeans

Good compilation album, catchy and energetic. Sometimes you're in the mood to listen around a genre rather than focus on a band. Reagan on the cover is a bonus reminder of the bad times for youth in America.

Bought a copy of this record at a consignment shop in 2010. 12 years later still one of my best vinyl purchases.
