Steve song was first!
I agree with your comments...I'll add Kyu Sakamoto and Sukiyaki to the list as well!
????
When people could actually sing.
Won't you go away (little girl)
I only remember the Steve Lawrence version & he did a great job with it just as his wife Edye Gorme. When I listen to her sing "What Did I Have That I Don't have Now" it's easy to see that she was another amazing talent.
I remember buying the 45 when it came out. His wife came out with Blame it on the Bossa Nova about the same time.
Great song written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin.
A nice little song by Lawrence. Wouldn't fly today, a middle-aged man singing to a little girl.
old songs rock ,,, born in 59
My message for people who overanalyze this song:
This song is politically incorrect? Whyyyyy? It's not about a predator. "Little girl" in this context means the same thing as baby, honey, darling, et cetera. She's a woman, not a girl, let alone little.
Stop calling this song politically incorrect! That goes for Travelin' Man as well!

So many MEMORIES in 1962...heck was just 12 years old in the 6th grade!
❤? I loved it all my life…my family taught me well…and I am going to be 65..Blessings to all those that are a part of our gorgeous musical American History.. ??☮️☮️???
? is all I have to say.
I love this song… Back in the early 71 I was 16 and I had just moved to a new add. And I met a little girl who was probably 11 or 12 in the building… She became infatuated with me and I used to sing her this song…. She used to get upset with me…
And the Steve Lawrence version is my favorite….
