About Show Of Hands
Psychedelic jazz-rock band formed in 1967, San Diego, CA, United States, and disbanded in 1972.
In 1971, Jerry McCann moved to San Francisco, where he released an album on Elektra with a group of musicians with whom he had done a couple of gigs in the mid 60s. When the group was signed to Elektra, they were called Anthrax. In one of the many meetings, Jerry suggested to call the group "Formerly Anthrax". After arguing, the Elektra staff proposed to call the band "Show of Hands" (which Jerry used during his argument) and call the album "Formerly Anthrax". The group agreed, but when they played gigs or were asked what the name of the band was, they called themselves "Formerly Anthrax" and called their album "A Show of Hands". Shortly after the album came out, Jim Morrison passed away, Elektra was sold to Kinney Corp. which owned Atlantic/Atco/Warner Bros./Reprise and Mad Magazine. The new owners came in and fired everybody from the janitors on up and the saga of which came first, the album title or the band name came to a quick and final demise. About 10 years later, Elektra signed another band called . (Source: Jerry McCann)

I had this album too ........thankyou ...
Love this LP still playing it after getting a copy in 1985. Very underrated
Great version and a really good album in total !
i found this album on a 3 for $1.00 table and bought it because flutes were listed in the instruments used. i was rewarded with this song :D my all-time fave arrangement of it! thanks for sharing. i still have the vinyl, btw.
Great Band, great music...remembrance of my college years in America. Still have the L.P.; listening to it every once in a while.
What the...This isn't Anthrax. Haha!
Thought i was the only one who had this album...thanks for putting this on..
Great Album
I recorded background vocals for A Show Of Hands/ formerly Anthrax in the studio in L.A., and used to hang out with Rick, Mary and Jack
at a former boy's camp in Sonoma County. They were truly one of the first fusion groups. I also heard Jerry Hahn & the Brotherhood and later
worked with Jerry.

First album I ever bought, for 70p at a fairground!

Just picked up this album today. Had never heard of them but it looked interesting.
Love it!
Underrated record and band. Little instrumental "Mount Olympus Breakdown" is incredible. Like "Stanley 's Theme" too. Love this band.
I've had this > *great album* < from San Francisco years ago
bought this for the cover art ...4 decades ago ! & still turning people on to it ✊✌
Lee Michaels play kick ass organ while playing organ bass.....check it out
I freekin love this album. Bought it a long long time ago. I would give anything to hear them do something new. I really don't know anything about the band but I love them.
Cool. Framework were good too, so that figures. The talent shines through.
so its organ and organ bass...
if you like this try the Counts: What's up front" & "Why not start all over" full of organ as bass.
Any other such organ bass pieces out there?

Saw this album in a cheepy bin in a Portland Woolworths back in early 1970' s bought it cause of intreaging cover . Now it's my favorite thing to listen to up in the west hills .
This is a very excellent album. i like it very much.
I have this LP. Apparently it's one of the worst selling albums ever released by Elektra. I think it stands up pretty well. I have great memories of seeing Jerry McCann's previous band, Framework, play some incredible gigs in San Diego, circa 1968-69.
