Chicago, Illinois based political punk rock band with a traditional hardcore influence. The band was formed in 1999 by Joe Principe (ex. 88 Fingers Louie) and fronted by vocalist, Tim Mcllrath. Originally 88 Fingers Louie member Dan Precision was on guitar but eventually left the band and was replaced by Chris Chasse, (ex. Reach The Sky)They released 2 albums on Fat Wreck Chords before signing to Geffen Records in 2003 and making their major label debut in 2004.

I just recently stumbled on Rise Against. With the demise of much of non-mainstream radio as the century changed, there wasn't much to listen to for this style of music. I grew up in the 60s and 70s but I really like alternative music. I found Rise Against when I made a serious attempt to widen my 2000s' musical horizons. While I can understand the Allmusic review's point, I tend to judge music on the simple premise of whether or not I like it, and I like this a lot, especially the first three cuts. All the songs are worth listening to.
