About Riley Kelly Lee And Ralph Samuelson
Lee was born in Texas in 1951. He began playing the shakuhachi in 1971 and is the first and one of few non-Japanese to attain the rank of Dai Shihan (grand master) in its playing. He was teaching shakuhachi at the University in Hawaii, Honolulu, in 1979 until 1986, when he moved to take up a PhD fellowship at the University of Sydney.
