- 近三年前 Mark Garderner（主唱、吉他）、Andrew Bell（吉他）、Steve Queralt（貝斯）、Lars Colbert（鼓）四位才俊青年在牛津的一所藝術學校結識後合組一支搖滾樂團「Ride」，'89年夏天移師倫敦，出色的俱樂部演出引起媒體注意，將六Ｏ年代的優美旋律、吉他主導音樂翻新而成九Ｏ年代的搖滾之聲，不少樂迷為之心折，更被「Sound」、「NME」等品味孤高的音樂雜誌封為「九Ｏ年代的希望」，前途看好。'90年1月首張EP「Ride」、4月第二張EP「Play」相繼告捷，名聲漸響，10月第三張EP「Smile」是首度進軍美國的專輯，密集的出片方式並未減損他們的創作力。「Ride」擅長以較為精簡的曲式傳達完整的創作理念，「Smile」也不例外，剛猛嘈雜的吉他音色挾著狂風驟雨之勢，像一堵回音不絕的音牆，製造出嗡然的幻覺效果，佐以紮實律動的貝斯與冷靜有力的鼓，共同撐起曲子的骨架，多層次的人聲帶有迷濛芳醇的質感，與時而喧噪粗礪的背景配樂形成既矛盾又迷人的對位立場。

About Ride, 駕馭合唱團
English rock band formed in Oxford in 1988.
With their first records, Ride created a unique wall of sound that relied on massive, trembling distortion in the vein of but with a simpler, more direct melodic approach. The shatteringly loud, droning neo-psychedelia the band performed was dubbed shoegazing by the British press because the bandmembers stared at their pedals while they performed. Along with their initial influence, , Ride stood apart from the shoegazing pack, primarily because of their keen sense of songcraft and dynamics. For a while, the band was proclaimed the last great hope of British rock, but they fell from the spotlight nearly as quickly as they entered it.
