Spanish cellist and conductor (born December 29, 1876 - Vendrell, Catalonia, Spain - died October 22, 1973 - San Juan, Puerto Rico).
Casals is perhaps best remembered for his recordings of the Bach Cello Suites he made from 1936 to 1939.

That's a fair point about intonation but as far I understand it Casals would go for feel over intonation, even though he aimed for good intonation. These days it's all 'fix it in the mix' perfect tuning but can miss the emotional punch and spontaneity of Casals' best works.
Folgende Erklärung liegt nahe: Manche in Bedrängnis geratenen Menschen pflegen sich voreilig Entsagungen aufzuerlegen, die sie dann nicht einhalten können oder auch vergessen. Um vor dem Beginn dieses "schrecklichen" Tages, an dem das Schicksal des Menschen für das kommende Jahr entschieden wird, rein von jeder Verpflichtung gegenüber seinem Schöpfer vor ihm zu stehen und ihn in Reue und Gnade zu bitten, wurde wahrscheinlich dieses Gebet verfasst.
PAU CASALS, please ! (Pablo is in castilian languages = spanish name) He was a catalan patriot, a strong defender of Catalonia and its language. In record are "Pablo" because is a record from the years that was banned in Spain speak, write and the promotion of catalan language, (time of the Franco dictator), now you can write Pau whitout problems, don't worry... please write the truth name..
