The Master's Apprentices - The Masters Apprentices

Review by Kamran Khan

The Master's Apprentices self-titled album is a classic representation of Australian rock music from the 1960s. The album features a collection of well-crafted songs that showcase the band's talent and versatility. The album opens with the upbeat and catchy "Undecided," where the band's lead singer Jim Keays delivers a powerful vocal performance. The band's musicianship shines through on tracks like "Living in a Child's Dream" and "But One Day," where they display their ability to blend rock, folk, and blues influences into their sound. The album's highlight is the psychedelic-tinged "Buried and Dead," which features a haunting guitar riff and Keays' emotive vocals. The Master's Apprentices album is a must-listen for fans of classic Australian rock music and a testament to the band's enduring legacy.

The Masters Apprentices (or The Masters to fans) was an Australian pop/rock band formed in 1965 in Adelaide, South Australia. Featuring singer and songwriter/rhythm guitarist , the band's earliest recordings combined the gritty R&B/rock of British groups like with the minor-key melodies of . Bower left the group in late 1967. Plagued by instability (undergoing eight personnel changes between 1966 and 1968), the group moved to England in the early 1970s, achieving some cult success with progressive rock albums before breaking up in 1972.

seen them live in the late 60s at Lithgow Town Hall. Unfortunately back then the local bikies had to throw eggs at them on stage, and the Masters walked off.

Thanks for the pictures, gotta love Jim's hair. This was recorded as a demo and submitted to Astor who released it before signing the group. Jim heard the A side on his car radio.
