About The Marvelettes

A Marvelettes classic - Wanda doing her magic ? "I'm gonna haunt you..."
And I keep coming back to this amazing video and amazing song. You rock, Tomovox! By the way, what happened to your Keep Off No Trespassing videos? I miss them, man!
"So love you'd better plan to make your final stand... 'Cuz I'll be waiting. Watching. Looking for a chance to make you mine.
NOBODY expected THIS from the "Please Mr. Postman" group.

WANDA YOUNG!
Should have been a huge hit, but Berry Gordy was too preoccupied with The Supremes by this time so this classic didn't get the attention it deserved.
wow i bet this took some research. what a great idea, though. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you ever compile lyrics i have some questions about the real thing... haha thanks again a proud to be former detroiter
A little music plug about the song. The girls were performing in New York this song needed to be recorded the girls wouldn't be able to record it in time in Detroit cause they were about to tour Europe so Mickey Stevenson brought that smookin track to New York and recorded there.
One of my favorite Marvelettes tunes ("Don't Mess With Bill" and "My Baby Must Be a Magician" are the others), this record has everything:
Compositional intelligence, a great arrangement highlighting a dark funkiness, Motown's flawless production, the Marvelettes' flawless performance, and THE FUNK BROS. rhythm section.
Note the comments of the Poster, above, regarding "film noir:"
I have maintained that there is a strain in music, all music, not only pop or jazz, and going back a century at least, that I call "Musique Noire..."
...and this recording is an example of that...
...I have to assume that the Poster agrees, else his remarks above regarding "film noir" become a complete non sequitur.

I always thought the background vocals were arranged in an African style. A lot of soul music uses call and response, but this seems a lot closer to a pure African vocal arrangement.
"Nowhere To Run," only this time the woman is the predator.
this record reminds me of a club called the blue orchid i only went once think it was 1970 great sound
i was 17 then going to twisted wheel/torch/ then after wheel closed moved on to blackpool meeca. only went to wigan twice then never went back . went to va va once catacombs once . happy days
I hadn't thought about that side of it, but you're right. This is one of those rare instances where the woman is steering the ship in the relationship. Wanda is in her "Hunter" mode well before she had bigger success with "The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game." I like your comment!
