Review by juls williams

The Kalifi Dance Ensemble's self-titled album is a mesmerizing collection of tribal rhythms and soulful melodies. The album showcases the group's diverse talents, as they effortlessly blend traditional African beats with contemporary sounds.

From the opening track "Jungle Drums" to the closing number "African Dreams," the album takes listeners on a journey through the heart of Africa. The percussion is especially noteworthy, with complex rhythms that are sure to get your feet tapping.

The vocals on the album are also impressive, with the lead singer's voice soaring over the intricate instrumentation. The harmonies are rich and full, adding depth and texture to each track.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Samba," which features a lively beat and infectious chorus that will have listeners singing along in no time. Another highlight is "Serengeti Sunset," a hauntingly beautiful instrumental piece that perfectly captures the majesty of the African landscape.

About Kalifi

Founded in 1984. Papafio Quartey who comes from Ghana was, before he imigrated to West Germany, a tutor and demonstrator of traditional African dance and music at the Institute of African Studies of the University of Ghana, Legon. As an expert in his field he was a great assistance to both local and foreign researchers and ethnologists in their goal to explore more about West African culture. He was for many years also a strong member of the once famous "Ghana Dance Drama Ensemble". The two other foundation members, King Tito and Smallboy who had their basic African drumming mostly from the Ghanaian "Master Drummer" , believe that this particular style of african music has not only enriched them in their music repertoire, but also helped them immensely in creating a better and positive general understanding for indigenous cultures and their traditions.n
