About Johnnie Temple, Jesse James

American Chicago blues guitarist, bassist and singer, who was active in the 1930s and 1940s. Born: October 18, 1906 in Canton, Mississippi. Died: November 22, 1968 in Jackson, Mississippi. Sometimes credited with his nickname as Johnny "Geechie" Temple. Moved to Jackson circa 1920, learned guitar from his step-father, Slim Duckett. Borrowed many songs from his friend with whom he lived and played in Jackson before he went to Chicago in the early 1930s. First recorded there in 1935, became popular blues singer.
