Review by Michael Jones

The album Toccatas BWV 564 et 565 Pascaille BWV 582 Fantaisie BWV 542 by Johann Sebastian Bach, Orgue, is a mesmerizing compilation of some of the composer's most profound works. The album features Bach's Toccatas BWV 564 and 565, Pascaille BWV 582, and Fantaisie BWV 542, all of which are performed with great skill and precision by the organist.

The album opens with Toccata BWV 564, a piece that showcases Bach's masterful use of counterpoint and his ability to create complex musical structures. The organist's performance is both powerful and nuanced, capturing the essence of the piece and bringing it to life.

The following track, Toccata BWV 565, is one of Bach's most famous works and is instantly recognizable. The organist delivers a stunning performance, with each note ringing out clear and strong, and the intricate melodies and harmonies weaving together to create a beautiful tapestry of sound.

Pascaille BWV 582 is a more contemplative piece, with a slow, mournful melody that gradually builds in intensity. The organist's performance is hauntingly beautiful, capturing the emotional depth of the piece and conveying its message with great sensitivity.

The album concludes with Fantaisie BWV 542, a virtuosic piece that showcases the organist's technical prowess. The performance is dazzling, with lightning-fast runs and intricate ornamentation that demonstrate the organist's skill and mastery of the instrument.

About Johann Sebastian Bach, Orgue

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750. Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .
