I listen to this and break down. I see a little boy in the back seat of a big car. Hes trying to understand the tears seen through the rear view mirror on his father face. The deep sadness and melancholy of an alcoholic father and the desperate attempts of a precautious son to sooth and sympathise a broken man. The beautiful lyrics and melody only added to the sense of desperation that little boy felt. That boy was me and that father was mine. That father is now gone and that boy has lost his best friend. Now a father himself, hoping any tears his own sons see on him will be those of joy and compassion.

I like that it gets kinda Klezmer at the end.
My friends and I played this album all the time in 1977.
I ADORE the end of this one. Whole song of course but the way the end speeds up and intensifies....love that!
