Review by Jennifer Grandoni

Psychepowerpopapunk by Hüsker Dü is an album that showcases the band's versatility and musicianship. The album is a mix of different genres that are blended together seamlessly, creating a unique and refreshing sound.

The album starts off with the catchy and upbeat "Crystal," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. The songs are fast-paced and energetic, with powerful guitar riffs and driving drum beats.

The lyrics on the album are introspective and thought-provoking, touching on themes of love, loss, and personal growth. The vocals are raw and emotive, conveying the emotions of the lyrics with intensity and passion.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "The Girl Who Lives on Heaven Hill," which features a memorable guitar riff and powerful vocals. Another highlight is "Pink Turns to Blue," which showcases the band's ability to create a powerful and emotive ballad.

Notes

  • All song recorded live in Minneapolis 1985.
  • Same as Holy 005 but with tracks shuffled around a bit and with the addition of "Celebrated Summer" and "All Work And No Play". Insert includes an interview with Bob Mould.
  • "You Are So Square" (sic) is a medley that includes "The Wit And The Wisdom". "Celebrated Summer" is incorrectly listed as "Sons Of Bitches". "If I Told You" and "Folklore" are combined into a single track. Beginning of "I Don't Know For Sure" is missing and the track fades in. Vinyl pops audible.
  • It is the spin radio concert, including "Celebrated Summer" and "All Work And No Play"."Celebrated Summer" is listed as "Sons Of Bitches":

The Girl Who Lives Ón Heaven Hill!
When New Day Rising came out in early 1985, I listened to it almost daily. My copy is signed too, with a shark, drawn my Grant, jumping out of the water. The album was thoroughly discussed among my group of friends for a very long time. Excellent song from an excellent record.

Rest In peace grant! Long Live Husker
The microphone can hardly handle the raw power. I'm sure the meters are redlining. Man those were the days, when we all had more hair and less aches and pains. Peace out to kids of the 80s

Interesting how Grant was bold and pompous taking Bob Mould to court, but then was practically begging Bob for his friendship and time in his later years. This was another case of someone who tried to take the spotlight away from the real talent of the band. Grant should have accepted his role and turned the arrogance attitude down a notch, and maybe we could have had Husker Du for a much longer period. Unlike Grant's post Husker years, all of Bob Mould's releases are instant classics and he has been successful in all his endeavors. RIP Grant.

When the Hay Day was shown in a local theater for the Sound Unseen festival, I found myself sitting next to Grant Hart for the movie. I remember this clip coming up on the screen and feeling the temptation to turn my head to see what Grant's reaction was to seeing this footage. It was probably an awkward experience for him, so I didn't want to stare at him and make it even more awkward. But hopefully he saw how much the audience loved hearing Hüsker Dü play... even if it was only on a movie screen. Maybe he got some satisfaction in that moment. I hope so.

What's not to like about Husker Du? ...............wish they'd get someone to give them $$$$$$$$$$$ to reproduce their albums.  Too much shit production with SST that needs to be put right!

There will never be another time, another place, even remotely close to Minneapolis in the 80's. Eff Seattle and the "grunge" movement. Minneapolis was the original. This just melts my heart to see this, at 40. I'm going to play this for my 5 year old and 2 year old over breakfast tomorrow morning.

I'm pretty sure I walked all the way down Lake St. to St. Paul after this show. Nothing mattered but seeing Husker Du to me. Walking two hours was no big deal.
Ahh Grant Hart, you sad, twisted genius. Wonderful lyricist!
