About The Hamburg Philharmonia Orchestra
The Hamburg (Germany) Philharmonic State Orchestra
Founded in 1828 as the Philharmonische Gesellschaft, Verein zur Aufführung von Winterkonzerten (Association for the Presentation of Winter Concerts"), the orchestra was merged with the Hamburger Opernorchester in 1934, with the new title Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg. Plans to rename the orchestra to Philharmoniker Hamburg around 2005 were not carried through.
