Spirituals by Flanger is an album that takes listeners on a unique sonic journey. The duo, consisting of Burnt Friedman and Uwe Schmidt, creates a soundscape that is both experimental and deeply rooted in tradition. The album is a fusion of jazz, electronic, and Afro-Cuban rhythms, making it a refreshing departure from mainstream music.
The opening track, "Nightbeat 1," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its hypnotic beats and atmospheric soundscapes. "Music to Begin With" is a standout track that features a driving bassline and intricate percussion. The album's title track, "Spirituals," is a hauntingly beautiful composition that showcases the duo's ability to create emotive and evocative music.
Throughout the album, Flanger experiments with different sounds and textures, creating a dynamic and engaging listening experience. "Nightbeat 3" is a prime example of this, with its glitchy beats and distorted vocals. The album's closing track, "Option," is a fitting end to the journey, with its dreamy synths and ethereal vocals.
