Review by Niral Russell Burnett

Lakmé Highlights by Delibes is a charming and enchanting album that showcases the talents of Mady Mesplé, Charles Burles, Roger Soyer, and Danielle Millet. The Orchestra of the Paris Opéra Comique, under the direction of Alain Lombard, provides a lush and vibrant accompaniment that perfectly complements the soloists' performances.

The album features highlights from Delibes' opera Lakmé, which tells the story of a Hindu priestess who falls in love with a British officer. Mesplé's portrayal of Lakmé is stunning, with her clear and agile soprano voice perfectly capturing the character's innocence, passion, and vulnerability. Burles and Soyer also deliver strong performances as the two male leads, with their rich baritone voices adding depth and dimension to the opera's romantic conflicts.

The orchestra's playing is superb throughout, with Lombard's sensitive and nuanced conducting bringing out the full beauty and drama of Delibes' score. The album's sound quality is excellent, with every instrument and voice coming through with clarity and warmth.
