Claire and The Potatoes' album, Have An Okay Time With Claire And The Potatoes, is a delightful blend of indie-pop and folk. The album features 10 tracks that showcase the band's musical prowess and unique sound.
The vocals on the album are soothing and easy on the ears, and the instrumentation is both intricate and well-balanced. The songs are catchy and upbeat, with a few slower tracks that add depth to the album.
One standout track is "Goodbye Summer," a nostalgic and wistful tune that perfectly captures the feeling of saying goodbye to warm weather and carefree days. Another standout is "Lost In Translation," a catchy and upbeat song with a memorable chorus.
"Meet Claire. She's an idea, an approximation of a single woman navigating her 20s, looking for somewhere to go and something to do when she gets there. She's willing to pretend she believes in God for you but also mentally prepared to end every date with gunfire. Claire endures romantic obsessions, vexing insecurities and bouts of indifference while searching for authentic connections and asking unanswerable questions. And now, she's got a band.
Claire and the Potatoes was conceptualized by Marc With a C in late 2012, when he asked vocalist Leslie Rising to join him in recording a cover of The Little Girls' "So Hard To Be True." Pleased with the results, the duo recorded three additional covers and subsequently released the EP The I Do In I Doubt, billing it as sugary pop songs with boy/girl harmonies and an extra side of neurosis. The following month, Marc approached Milk Carton Superstars' Jim Myers about being the gigging drummer for the band. Soon after, Jim's MCS cohort Guy Larmay joined in on bass. As Marc introduced original material at rehearsals, a true band dynamic emerged. This led to songwriting collaborations, and, by the end of 2013, the group had developed enough material for a full-length album.
Have an Okay Time With Claire and the Potatoes! is that album. Recorded by Marc and mastered by Justin Beckler, it features 11 original songs, steeped in a '60s pop/rock aesthetic, that tell Claire's story.
Currently portrayed by Leslie, Marc, Guy and Jim, Claire and the Potatoes are based in Orlando. They often play shows but are more than likely not coming to your town."
Have An Okay Time With Claire And The Potatoes is a solid debut album from a talented band. Claire and The Potatoes have created a sound that is all their own, and their music is sure to put a smile on your face.
