Super funky in its execution; I can almost smell it. 70's jazz has a great feeling that makes me want to take a road trip.
I had the vinyl in 1972 and used this album to learn to play soprano sax. Wonderful to find it here on YouTube. It has a ton of 60 cycle hum or rumble of some sort - is that on the original recording or is that some issue with the way the turntable was connected to record this video? I don't remember hearing that low hum on my Vinyl but that was nearly 50 years ago so maybe I just forgot.
좋습니다!
I've heard old bootlegs of previous versions, and this IMO is the best performance by this quartet. Just beautiful...thanks for posting.
One of my favorite albums of my youth (I foreswore pop and rock from age 10 to 17 so filled that time period with jazz and classical). As a trumpet player in JrHS and HS (late 70s early 80s) I came at this then from the perspective of a "modern" jazz trumpet (flugelhorn) example. Now, I listen to Tony Levin's bass a bit more as a wanna-be mid-life-crisis bass player and for the composition.
nice
Just amazing. Thanks a lot!
RIP Gerry Niewood...
Learned drumming to this cassette...played it over and over till I had 80% of Gadds flow and fills down...then I lost the tape :/...till today! Thank you so much, felt like finding a long lost friend...:)
This is really great sound from its original recording. I had it on vinyl back early 70s. very incredible.. it was alot to me.. still is.. Love you Chuck

Its an extasis of art to my soul
Thank you ?
Great album, supreme quartet !! Chuck Mangione (flugel, Electric piano), Tony Levin (bass), Steve Gadd (drums), Gerry Niewood (saxes, flute)!!!!
1972. The very first time I ever heard or heard of Steve Gadd. I knew immediately that guy was special. The same goes for Tony Levin.
One of the coolest records in my parents collection. Has been a favorite of mine my whole life. It's about damn time there was a deluxe CD/digital box set of the classic CM Quartet albums from the early 70's!
we know Chuck Mangione because of my dad!!!! we love you!!!
Thank you for posting this album! It brings back the beautiful memory of taking my younger brother to see the Quartet when they came to Dallas ....they were so wonderful!
