Cheap Nasties - 53rd 3rd

Review by Julie Valerie

The Cheap Nasties' album 53rd 3rd is a punk rock masterpiece that showcases the raw energy and rebellious spirit of the genre. The album features eleven tracks that are filled with aggressive guitar riffs, pounding drums, and snarling vocals that are sure to get any punk rock fan's blood pumping.

The album kicks off with the fast-paced and catchy "Stolen Property," which immediately sets the tone for the rest of the record. Other standout tracks include "Hit and Run," which features a driving bassline and a chorus that is impossible not to shout along to, and "Destroy All Planets," a frenzied anthem that perfectly captures the nihilistic attitude of punk rock.

Throughout the album, the Cheap Nasties demonstrate their skill at crafting memorable hooks and melodies that are catchy without sacrificing any of their punk rock edge. The lyrics are often politically charged and confrontational, tackling issues like police brutality and social injustice head-on.

Summary by Julie Valerie

53rd 3rd is a must-listen for any fan of punk rock. It's a timeless album that still sounds just as fresh and vital today as it did when it was first released in 1977. The Cheap Nasties may not have achieved the same level of success as some of their peers, but this album proves that they were just as talented and influential as any of the punk rock legends of their era.

Hey Kim! Real cool stuff man! I saw you with the Scientists last year in Toronto. I drove from Montreal (5 hours) to see you play. It was worth the trip! Thanks to make such good music.

Wow just came across this! I still remember pogoing at the Stoned Crow and had such a blast that, at the end of the night getting into the car, I noticed that my feet were squelchy and sticky. I looked down (it was a classic cartoon moment) they were crusty and bloody. My thongs and soles of my feet were shredded... Must have been the smashed beer glasses.

I also remember you walking into the sculpture studio at WAIT late one morning with a copy of Little Feat's "Feats Don't Fail Me Now" album under you arm going - this is unreal... And Robbie and Brad. Brad brought Dave around to my place once because he was looking for a bass player... I auditioned, much to Dave's chagrin, for the to be Hoodoo Gurus on a fretless bass. He was looking at Brad going WTF? Of course I didn't get the gig! How hilarious is that.
