Charlie Parker - Charlie Parker Volume IV

Review by Ron Cates

Charlie Parker Volume IV is a must-have album for jazz enthusiasts and lovers of bebop. The album features some of Parker's most memorable performances from the years 1947-1948, including his iconic rendition of "Parker's Mood".

The album showcases Parker's exceptional talent as a saxophonist and his unique ability to improvise and create new sounds. The tracks are fast-paced and energetic, highlighting Parker's mastery of the bebop style.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Au Privave", which features Parker's virtuosity on the alto saxophone. The rhythm section, including pianist Bud Powell and drummer Max Roach, provide a solid foundation for Parker's improvisational solos.

Excellent, although the constant background hubbub suggests that not everyone is giving their undivided attention to the performance!

Probably recorded with 1 mic, the sound is dirty, 0 edit, 0 post production, and yet...
Some of the best solos of Bird. Guitarist Mundell Lowe played some really modern ideas there.
The only bummer is that everything seems to be 1/2 step too high, therefore they probably played slightly slower.
Check out the speed of Lester Leaps In, some great phrases to transcribe for a rhythm changes in B ;)
