The Carter Brothers - Do The Flo Show Southern Country Boy

Review by Jill Berggren

The Carter Brothers' album, "Do The Flo Show Southern Country Boy," is a fun and energetic collection of country tunes that will get your feet tapping and your head bobbing. The brothers have a knack for crafting catchy melodies and clever lyrics that capture the spirit of the South.

The album kicks off with the title track, "Do The Flo Show Southern Country Boy," which is a rollicking tribute to the country lifestyle. The song is full of twangy guitars, honky-tonk piano, and soaring harmonies that make it impossible not to sing along.

Other standout tracks on the album include "Ain't Nothin' Like A Country Girl," which is a playful ode to the charms of rural living and "Redneck Riviera," a rowdy anthem that celebrates the joys of beach life.

Throughout the album, the Carter Brothers' musicianship is impressive, with tight harmonies and expertly played instruments. The production is clean and polished, but still manages to retain a raw, organic feel that perfectly suits the band's down-home sound.

About The Carter Brothers

The Carter Bros., Roman, Jerry, and Albert, along with friend Jimmy 'Magoo' Carter (Morris) formed a band in high school in Southern California from where they had relocated from Alabama. They first recorded in 1958 and had a hit record (minus Jimmy Carter), Southern Country Boy, on Jewel Records in 1965 which reached a placing of twenty one on Billboards R&B chart. A number of similar sounding 45's were subsequently recorded for the Jewel label but by the mid 1960s their recording career was in hiatus. They continued to play local clubs in the Los Angeles area and took day jobs. In 1996, they reappeared on a Japanese label with new recordings of their old Jewel material which resulted in successful tours abroad. They received home acclaim for their appearance at the 2007 San Francisco Blues Festival and became regulars on the club circuit with a show that combines their gospel influence with blues and R&B. Jerry died in 2002 and Albert in 2012.

The guitarist is Albert Carter not Roman. He is the vocalist. What a powerhouse style he has. The first records had a fourth Carter, Jimmy in the ranks.
