Review by Andrew James

Brilliant Corners' album Somebody Up There Likes Me Plus Eleven is a delightful collection of jazz tunes that will leave fans of the genre thoroughly satisfied. The band's intricate and complex arrangements, led by the exceptional saxophone playing of Steve Buckley, are a joy to listen to. Each track is expertly crafted, with the musicians seamlessly blending together to create a cohesive sound.

The album opens with the upbeat and catchy "Somebody Up There Likes Me," which sets the tone for the rest of the record. The following tracks continue to impress, with highlights including the frenetic "Swamp Thing" and the soulful "The Last Word."

Throughout the album, the band's musicianship is on full display, with each member of the group given ample opportunity to shine. The rhythm section of bassist Mick Hutton and drummer Martin France provide a solid backbone for the more experimental elements of the record, while pianist John Turville adds a touch of elegance to the proceedings.

Never released in US. while we were getting nothing but Huey Lewis on the radio. This stomps Huey Lewis. This isn't even the best song on the album (that honor goes to "oh" but this is maybe 2nd or 3rd on an immortal album.

"More spots than a glue sniffer from Southmead." This entire LP is great. Pinnacle of 1980s British twee-pop for me. Why not better known?

What a trip down memory lane! Saw these in Manchester (I think it was Deyvilles) in 1988 when my mate was a student up there. Absoultely "Brilliant"! Met a girl called Annabel, she nearly made me choke on my chips!
