Big Star - 1 Record Radio City

jayhandler

Review by Jay Handler

1 Record Radio City by Big Star is a classic album that has stood the test of time. Released in 1972, it features the songwriting talents of Alex Chilton and Chris Bell, who create a unique blend of power pop and rock that is both catchy and emotional.

The album opens with the upbeat and infectious "Feel," which sets the tone for the rest of the record. From there, the band explores themes of love, loss, and heartbreak in songs like "The Ballad of El Goodo" and "Thirteen," which are both highlights of the album.

One of the standout tracks is "September Gurls," which has become one of the band's most popular songs. The shimmering guitars and Chilton's soaring vocals make it an instant classic.

September gurls do so much
I was your Butch, and you were touched
I loved you, well, never mind
I've been crying all the time

December boys got it bad
December boys got it bad

September girls, I don't know why
How can I deny what's inside?
Even though I'll keep away
They will love all our days

December boys got it bad
December boys got it bad

When I get to bed late at night
That's the time she makes things right
Ooh, when she makes love to me

(Ooh)

I've known about Big Star for awhile from Adventureland but thanks to that 70s show I've really been getting into their stuff. I even bought the remastered cd with their first two albums on it. So far there one of my favorite classic bands.

I am like Artokaas don't see what's so special about this song...sounds very standard and produce for the radio...nothing to say in the words, no angle, no point of view...And RS are not a magazine you can trust...never...they are just a bunch of “putains” that are only searching the way to sell more of their S**** magazine...
