Review by Libby Patterson

Mississippi Blues, the iconic album by Big Bill Broonzy, is a true masterpiece of blues music. Released in 1958, this album features some of the most soulful and authentic blues tracks ever recorded.

The album opens with the title track "Mississippi Blues," a slow and mournful tune that perfectly captures the spirit of the deep south. Broonzy's voice is raw and powerful, and his guitar playing is nothing short of astounding.

Throughout the album, Broonzy showcases his incredible talent as a songwriter and guitarist. Tracks like "Key to the Highway" and "Black, Brown, and White" are true classics of the genre, and his performances are nothing short of electrifying.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "When I Been Drinkin'," a haunting ballad that showcases Broonzy's ability to convey deep emotion through his music. The song is a testament to his incredible talent as a musician and songwriter.

This was love at first listen as the end credits music to the 2003 movie Intolerable Cruelty.
I did feel a little deja vu so maybe i had herd it before or parts of it before.
Anyways it is such a lovely song and i am a fool for simple acoustic performances like the excellent Bill Broonzy performance here.
The guitar picking here however is not simple.

What album is this on? I have his live recordings from the 50's, but can't find the studio recordings from the 50's. There are a ton of compilations, but I want to get all his later Hi-Fi studio recordings.
