Review by George Donophan

The album Doces Bárbaros, featuring the iconic Brazilian artists Bethânia, Gal, Caetano, and Gil, is an absolute masterpiece that showcases the best of Brazilian music. Released in 1976, the album is a live recording of a concert performed by the quartet, and it captures the energy and spontaneity of their performance.

The album features a mix of original compositions and covers of classic Brazilian songs, all performed with the signature style and flair of each of the artists. The standout tracks include "Oração ao Tempo," a hauntingly beautiful song by Caetano Veloso that speaks to the struggles of living in a changing world, and "Um Índio," a powerful and emotive song by Caetano that celebrates the beauty and richness of indigenous culture.

The vocal performances on the album are nothing short of breathtaking, with each artist bringing their unique style and personality to the songs. Bethânia's rich, soulful voice is particularly impressive, and she shines on tracks like "Mistério do Planeta" and "Força Estranha."
