  • The recordings were made in the Ivory Coast during two musicological missions organized by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France (1964-65, 1966-67). The first mission was undertaken in association with the International Institute for Comparative Music Studies and Documentation, Berlin, and second mission was assisted by the Institute of Ethnosociology in the University of Abidjan.
  • The items on bands A3, A5 and B2 were recorded in December 1966, the other songs in July-August 1965.
  • The record was prepared by the Department of Ethnomusicolgy at the Musée de l'Homme, Paris.
  • Edited for the International Music Council by the International Institute for Comparative Music Studies (Berlin/Venice) with the assistance of the C. Gulbenkain Foundation.
  • Gatefold cover with notes about each recording in English and in French. Includes an insert sheet with notes in Italian.
