Asgrauw - Krater

Review by Patrick Sweeney

Asgrauw's latest album, Krater, is a relentless assault on the senses. The Dutch black metal band has crafted a work that is both atmospheric and aggressive, with memorable riffs and haunting melodies that stick with the listener long after the music has stopped.

From the opening track, "Grafrost", it's clear that Asgrauw means business. The guitars are thick and heavy, the drums thunderous, and the vocals raw and powerful. The band's sound is reminiscent of classic Norwegian black metal, but with a modern edge that sets them apart from their peers.

Tracks like "Kult" and "Eeuwige Ram" showcase the band's ability to create epic, sweeping compositions that are both intense and atmospheric. The guitar work is particularly impressive, with intricate riffs and solos that add depth and texture to the music.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Vlammenzee", which features guest vocals from Dutch black metal legend, Jan Kruitwagen. The song is a blistering assault on the senses, with Kruitwagen's guttural growls adding an extra layer of brutality to the already intense music.

About Asgrauw

Asgrauw is an old skool black metal band from the borderlands of Gelderland, The Netherlands. Asgrauw refers to the scythe shaped shining of the new moon and is a Dutch word for the grim and pale color of ash as well. The definition of the style and character of the music can be described this way: "Raw, powerful and straight, filled with melodic riffs and blast-beats combined with static rhythm sections, both underlined with filthy and raw sounded vocals in both the Dutch and English language"

Netherlands' Krater is a side project of members Meslamtaea and Sagenland: their 2016 album, Asgrauw, is a clone of Austere, Xasthur, Burzum and Horna. The opener is inspired, but the rest isn't.Highlights: "Krater".
