Aquarium Rescue Unit With Col Bruce Hampton - Basically Frightened

Review by Bruno Rocha

Aquarium Rescue Unit's album "Basically Frightened" is a masterpiece of experimental rock and jazz fusion. Featuring the legendary Col Bruce Hampton on vocals and guitar, the album showcases the band's virtuosity and improvisational skills.

From the opening track "Yield Not to Temptation" to the closing "No Egos Underwater," the album takes the listener on a wild ride through a variety of musical styles and moods. The band's tight rhythm section provides a solid foundation for the soaring guitar and saxophone solos, while Hampton's vocals add a touch of humor and irreverence to the proceedings.

Standout tracks include "Fixin' to Die," a bluesy number that showcases Hampton's soulful voice, and "Elevator to the Moon," a funky jam that features some of the album's most impressive instrumental work.

LONG LIVE the Col. (Ret.)! Was at this video shoot at the Georgia Theater in Athens, GA (circa 1992). It was a video shoot for Widespread Panic, but Col. Bruce and the ARU came out and, from what can remember, did a few takes of this song. Back during that pre-jamband era (wasn't a term then), it was gonna be a good night at the Ga. Theater when the Col. got Roosevelt to dance.
