Igor Zhukov's performance is so well thought out, it's absolutely magical and transcendental. I can tell you that this is Scriabin's most difficult piano sonata to play, having attempted to play it many times myself.
Sublime.
By comparison, Hamelin's technical mastery is more like skating over the surface of the music. Instead of gliding through frozen crystal, Zhukov is more about ebb and flow, with tidal extremes of drift and disruption. One of the hardest things to bring off is the ending, getting the right sense of disintegration and fade-out: not so much an ending as drifting out of earshot.
This is played as weirdly as it actually is. I have no idea if Zhukov has "got it right
It is also incredible.
